Happy Star Wars Celebration Day!

I’ll admit, I’ve never heard of Star Wars Celebration but now, I’m obsessed! For those of you who aren’t quite sure what this celebration is exactly, well, it’s a three-day Star Wars fan experience with various Star Wars themed entertainment, celebrity appearances, panels, screenings, exclusive first looks and sneak peeks that can only be offered at these shows!IMG_5626

HOW COOL IS THIS?!

There’s so much going on but it sounds like three days of pure Star Wars magic. From cosplay to celebrity meet and greets, how could you not have the best time ever!

Because of this event, Mr. DAPs and I thought this would be a perfect time to debut our new series, “A Little Slice of Baking Magic.” During each show, we’ll make a Disney-themed dessert (we all know I love me some sweets) and pair it with a unique flavor of coffee (we all know Mr. DAPs loves himself some coffee). Since we’re both die-hard Disney fans, collaborating on a Disney video while bringing a special piece of ourselves to the table (i.e. treats and coffee) made absolute perfect sense!

So thank you Star Wars Celebration for hosting this fantastic event so we could showcase our new series!

Take a look at the video below to see how to make BB-8 Oreo pops and whether or not they paired well with a specific blend of coffee!

Let us know what you think of “A Little Slice of Baking Magic” in the comment section below! And if you have any other suggestions for future dessert and coffee pairings, let us know!

Oh and one last thing… In other news, Disneyland is celebrating their birthday on July 17, so happy birthday Disneyland! I’ll be eating a few BB-8 Oreo pops in your honor!

BB-8 Oreo Pops

Ingredients

  • 2-3 cups white chocolate melts
  • Orange icing
  • White Icing
  • Black icing
  • Double Stuf Oreos
  • Mini Oreos

EQUIPMENT:

  • Lollipop sticks
  • Toothpicks
  • Decorating bags
  • #1 tip
  • #2 tip
  • #3 tip
  • Scissors
  • Spoon
  • Knife
  • Baking sheet
  • Wax (or parchment) paper
  • Large bowl or mug

Instructions

  1. Melt the white chocolate melts in a large bowl or mug in the microwave in 30 second increments at 50% power, stirring every time until smooth.
  2. Separate the Mini Oreos into halves.
  3. Use a knife to cut off the bottom quarter of the Mini Oreos.
  4. Dip one end of a lollipop stick into the white chocolate. Insert it all the way through the Double Stuf Oreo until it sticks out about half an inch at the top end of the Oreo.
  5. Use a spoon to drop a small amount of white chocolate onto one inner half of a Mini Oreo.
  6. Lay the lollipop stick (with the Double Stuf Oreo attached) on top of the white chocolate and Mini Oreo. Add more white chocolate to the top of the lollipop stick. Place the other half of a Mini Oreo face down onto the lollipop stick with white chocolate. Gently press the Mini Oreos together. The white chocolate here acts as glue between the two Mini Oreos.
  7. Place on wax lined baking sheet. Repeat with remaining Oreos and lollipop sticks.
  8. Put the baking sheet in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes, or until the white chocolate hardens.
  9. Cut off the tip of a decorating bag. Put a #1 tip into the decorating bag. In a small bowl or cup, mix together white icing and a small amount of black icing to make grey icing.
  10. Transfer into the decorating bag.
  11. Cut off the tip of a decorating bag. Put a #2 tip into the decorating bag and fill it with black icing.
  12. Cut off the tip of a decorating bag. Put a #3 tip into the decorating bag and fill it with orange icing.
  13. Remove baking sheet from fridge. Dip entire Oreo pop into the white chocolate, making sure the white chocolate reaches the base of the lollipop stick. Scrape the back side of the Oreo pop on the rim of the cup/bowl. Place back onto baking sheet.
  14. Repeat with remaining Oreo pops.
  15. Using the orange icing, create 3-4 small circles on the Double Stuf Oreo. Make four notches inside each circle.
  16. At the top of the Mini Oreo, draw a little line across the Oreo, as if it’s a halo.
  17. Using the grey icing, add the grey details. Connect the circles with a grey line, adding two small dots on either side of the line in the middle. Add a grey line above the orange halo on BB-8’s head. Add another line at the bottom of his head.
  18. Using the black icing, drop on a small dot on his head. This will be his eyeball. Feel free to add a smaller black dot on the lower right side of his head.
  19. Place the Oreo pop back on wax lined baking sheet and repeat process with the remaining Oreo pops.
  20. Put in fridge to harden.
  21. Bon appétit!
