Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups Dip – Basketball Edition!
March Madness 2016 is pure insanity. Every underdog is winning and everyone’s brackets are completely messed up. I’ll be honest – I don’t watch college basketball during the regular season, but that’s why the tournament is so fun because you never know what’s going to happen. And that’s exactly what happened during this year’s NCAA Tournament. Everyone thought certain teams would win their one game needed to advance, but nope, there have been lots of underdogs and upsets.
But we’re in the home stretch. The final four play their games on Saturday and the NCAA championship game is on Monday, April 4. That being said, it’s the most perfect time to bring out the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup dip.
Peanut butter and chocolate is a fantastic combination, and yes, there are peanut butter and chocolate dip recipes, but this recipe actually includes Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. That’s not all (but wait, there’s more)… the dip will be topped with orange and brown Reese’s Pieces to make it look like a basketball.
Since PLB is dedicated to “mini desserts,” this dip is kind of out of the ordinary. But we’ll be using the Reese’s Peanut Butter cups miniatures, not to confuse these with the unwrapped minis. The miniatures are the peanut butter cups that are about the size of a quarter.
Not only will we be using Reese’s, but we’ll be adding cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and a little extra creamy peanut butter to bind it all together. Basically it’s like we’re eating one large Reese’s PB cup!
Game or no game, this dip is something you’ll truly enjoy. I’ll probably make it for our next wine tasting adventure (but instead of placing the Reese’s Pieces on top, I’ll mix them in with the dip, YUM). Bring on the pretzels and the Reese’s Peanut Butter dip and I’M SOLD!!!
Ingredients
- 20 Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups miniatures
- 4 ounces regular cream cheese
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- ½ tablespoon heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter
- About 6 ounces Reese’s Pieces (remove yellow and use on orange and brown)
Instructions
- Unwrap Reese’s Peanut Butter miniatures and blend all 20 in a food processor until finely chopped.
- In a medium bowl, mix together crushed Reese’s, cream cheese, and creamy peanut butter. You can use a stand mixer or a hand mixer, otherwise, a wooden spatula will do the job just fine.
- Beat in powdered sugar.
- Slowly add in the heavy cream. At this point, the dip should be medium thick.
- Scoop your dip into a serving bowl. In order to make the shape of the dip into a basketball, you may need to spray your hands with cooking spray to avoid sticking and shape it yourself.
- Remove yellow Reese’s Pieces from the package (you can save them for another dessert or snack on them while making the dip :P). Place the orange and brown pieces on top of the dip to look like a basketball. You’ll need more orange Reese’s Pieces than brown because the brown will be used for the stripes of the ball and the orange will cover the remaining areas of the dip.
- Store in refrigerator until ready to serve. Don’t forget to add the pretzels to dip!
