Monster’s Inc. Oreo Pops
Disney has always been so meaningful to me. I remember growing up, I always wanted to be a character at Disneyland. Luckily, when I moved down to Southern California, my dreams came true. I began working in the entertainment department at the Disneyland Resort and had the most magical experience of my life.
Think about it, you get to meet various people from all around the world and it’s YOU who gets to put a big smile on their faces!
I felt such joy and the biggest reward when I got to witness guests’ faces light up. Trust me, I miss working there more than ever. As a former cast member, Disney characters will always have such a special place in my heart. Even though I no longer work at the happiest place on earth, lots of my friends still do!
My best friend Ashlee is cool enough dance almost every day in Disney California Adventure’s Pixar Play Parade! She’s a Monster’s University cheerleader and gets to kick off every parade with the countdown to fun!
Not only is she insanely awesome in so many ways, but it’s her birthday! So for this week’s treat of the week, we’re going to make Monster’s Inc. themed Oreo pops! Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are two of the greatest monsters on the scare floor. Lucky for us, we get to make little monsters right here in our kitchen!
So these Oreo pops are dedicated to you, Ash! May your birthday be filled with lots of Monsters Inc. Oreo pops, Sprinkles cupcakes, and cardboard cut-outs, and great memories with wonderful people.
Monster's Inc. Oreo Pops
Ingredients
- Oreos (any kind/flavor, I prefer Double Stuf)
- Neon green melting chocolate
- Purple melting chocolate
- Baby blue melting chocolate
- Milk chocolate melting morsels
- Large candied eyes
- Small candied eyes
- Cake pop sticks
- Marshmallow
- Chocolate Twizzlers
- Ziploc bag
- Scissors
- Spoon
- Wax paper lined baking sheet
Instructions
For Mike Wazowski Oreo pops:
- Melt neon green chocolate melting morsels in a microwave-safe bowl in 30 second increments at 50% power, stirring each time, until completely smooth.
- Placing your Oreos on the wax-lined baking sheet, separate Oreos by gently twisting each cookie apart. Ideally one side of the Oreo cookie should be completely bare while the other has all of the “stuf.”
- Using your spoon, drop a dime-size amount of neon green chocolate directly in the center of the “stuf”-sided cookie. Lay the top of the cake pop stick in the center and sandwich the Oreo back together with the bare cookie. Make sure you put a small enough amount of chocolate in the center, you don’t want it to be squishing out from the side when you sandwich it back together.
- Leave your Oreo and cake pop stick on the wax paper to allow the neon green chocolate to set completely.
- While the chocolate is hardening within the Oreo, go ahead and get the rest of your ingredients together in order to finish creating Mike. Grab your scissors and cut off two tiny edges of the marshmallow. These will act as Mike’s horns. Pick out which large eyeball you will be using.
- Once the chocolate has set, dip the entire Oreo pop in the neon green melted chocolate. (You may have to reheat the neon green chocolate to get it back to the smooth consistency it was at before allowing the cake pop to harden). Gently tap the cake pop stick on the rim of the cup to remove all excess neon green chocolate. While holding the Oreo pop, quickly add the one large eye just above the center of the Oreo. Place the two horns you’ve cut from the marshmallow in the crevice at the top of the Oreo.
- Lay the Oreo on the wax-paper lined baking sheet.
- To add the smile, melt the milk chocolate melting morsels in the microwave at 50% power in 30 second increments until smooth. Scoop a small amount of chocolate into the corner of a Ziploc bag, squeeze out the air and seal tight. Use the scissors to cut a fine tip off the corner of the bag to allow full control of the amount of chocolate to be piped along the Oreo.
- Gently squeeze a small line of chocolate along the lower half of the Oreo to create a smile. Add two ticks for the cheek lines.
- Leave your Mike Wazowski Oreo pop on the wax-lined baking sheet for about an hour to allow the neon chocolate to harden.
For the Sulley Oreo pops:
- Melt blue chocolate melting morsels the same way you did the neon green melting morsels (microwave-safe bowl in 30 second increments at 50% power, stirring each time, until smooth).
- Twist apart Oreos onto wax-line baking sheet. One cookie should be bare and the other cookie should have all of the “stuf.”
- Take a dime-sized spoonful of blue chocolate onto the center of the cookie with the “stuf.” Lay a cake pop stick in the center. Gently sandwich the other half of the Oreo cookie back together. Make sure the chocolate doesn’t ooze out.
- Leave the Oreo pop on the wax sheet until the blue chocolate has hardened. This may take about 15 minutes.
- Once the chocolate has set, dip the entire Oreo into the blue chocolate (note: blue chocolate may need to be melted again in microwave for 30 seconds at 50% power to ensure smoothness) and gently tap the cake pop stick against the rim of the cup to get rid of excess blue chocolate.
- Lay Oreo flat on wax paper.
- Add the two small eyes just above the center of the Oreo. Use scissors to cut two small snippets of chocolate Twizzlers for the horns. Place horns in the crevice of the top of the Oreo, in between the two cookies.
- Melt purple chocolate using the same method as above. Dip one side of an un-used cake pop stick and drop some purple chocolate spots on the outer rim of the face of the Oreo. Smear the purple in with the blue just enough so it gives Sulley some texture. He shouldn’t look smooth like Mike, he should look furry and texturized.
- Using the other side of the cake pop stick, dip the clean end into the blue chocolate and make a letter M above the eyeballs to act as his eyebrows. This should also give him some 3-D look to him.
- Taking the same marshmallow you used for Mike’s horns, cut a small piece of marshmallow, about half the size of your pinky nail. Drop it into the blue chocolate and make sure it is evenly coated. Using a fork, remove the marshmallow from the blue chocolate, and gently place the blue chocolate covered marshmallow onto the Oreo, directly under the eyes.
- For the smile, using the same purple chocolate as earlier to texturize, add a spoonful into the corner of a Ziploc bag, squeeze out the extra air, seal tight, and cut a fine hole in the corner.
- Make half a smile on Sulley, starting about 5 o’clock and ending about 8 o’clock. Don’t forget to add a tick line for the cheek bones!
- Leave your Sulley Oreo pop on the wax-lined baking sheet for about an hour in room temperature to allow the chocolate to set completely.
