Remember when the overprotective clownfish Marlin searched for his abducted son Nemo and along his journey, became friends with Dory, the most kind-hearted fish who struggles with short-term memory loss? From the moment Dory made her mark on screen, the world fell in love with her and finally, Dory’s making a name for herself in the new movie Finding Dory! Gosh, it only took 13 years!
Since Dory can be a bit forgetful at times, she takes Nemo and Marlin on a journey to reunite with her parents. What a cruel trick it would be for Disney-Pixar to play on us if it turns out Dory’s parents are dead (because that seems to be how most Disney movies turn out, i.e. Frozen, Bambi, Lion King, and even Nemo’s mother). But nope, let’s not go down that path. Instead, let’s think the happiest things… it’s the same as having wings! #NAMETHATDISNEYMOVIE
Words can’t describe how much I’m looking forward to seeing this movie. So in honor of Finding Dory, this week’s PLB treat is dedicated to Dory herself! Watch the video below to see how to make Dory Oreo pops!
Oreo pops are so stinkin’ easy to make and extremely delicious. Double Stuf Oreos are already my favorite Oreo cookie, but when that cookie is dipped in chocolate AND decorated it to look like a super cute Disney character, LIFE IS GOOD. In fact, life is great! Because simply looking at these Dory Oreo pops puts the biggest smile on my face! And I hope they put the biggest smile on your face as well!
If you haven’t already, be sure to follow Pretty Little Bakers on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram! And if you make these Dory Oreo pops, send them to me so I can repost/retweet your pics! I love seeing your creations, especially if we’re working with cute little Disney characters!
If there’s any other dessert you’d like to see featured on PLB, let me know in the comment section below!
Combine blue and white chocolate melts in one bowl (3 to 1 ratio of blue chocolate melts to white chocolate melts).
Melt chocolate melts in the microwave in 30 second increments at 50% power, stirring every time until smooth.
Dip ½ inch of a lollipop stick into the blue chocolate and insert into a Double Stuf Oreo.
Place on wax lined baking sheet. Repeat with remaining Double Stuf Oreos.
Refrigerate for 30 minutes to allow the blue chocolate to set.
Take one yellow chocolate melt and cut a cross or a T in the center, separating the candy melt into four quarters (these quarters will be Dory’s pectoral or side fin).
Taking another yellow chocolate melt, trim off two sides of the candy melt, leaving a large triangle in the center (this will be used for Dory’s tail fin).
Using a toothpick, make dash marks on the flat side of the yellow candy melts, extending from the rounded edge of the candy melt to about half way to the pointed center.
Remove Oreo pops from the refrigerator. Submerge entire Oreo into the blue chocolate, making sure the blue chocolate reaches the base of the lollipop stick. Tap the rim of the bow/cup to allow the excess blue chocolate to drip back off.
Place on wax lined baking sheet. Immediate press a small yellow candy melt fin right above the lollipop stick. Gently shove the tail fin in between the Oreo cookies (right where the Stuf is).
Repeat with remaining Oreo pops.
Refrigerate for 30 minutes to allow the blue chocolate to set.
Roll white fondant out until it’s about 1/8 inch thick. Use a knife to cut circles out of the fondant, about the size of the tip of an eraser (for the larger eye) and cut more circles (for the smaller eye) about ¾ the size of the first ones.
Using a black edible marker pen, draw the “pupil” inside both sets of circles.
Outline the pupil using a pink edible marker pen.
Remove Oreos from refrigerator. Dab a small amount of blue chocolate on the back of the larger eye and place near the edge of the Oreo. Dab a small amount of blue chocolate on the back of the larger eye and gently place on the edge of the Oreo cookie.
Dip one end of a toothpick into the blue chocolate and make tick marks off the top of the Oreo, these marks will act as Dory’s top fin.
Using the black icing, draw a squiggly line from the start of her top fin down to the base of her tail. Outline the rest of the top part of the Oreo. Use a toothpick to evenly distribute the black icing in between these lines, leaving an oval in the center, slightly above the side fin.
Use the black icing to give Dory a wide smile. Roll out the smallest piece of fondant and place at the top of her smile to give her some teeth.
Place Oreo pops back in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to set completely.
