Monster Haystacks

Oh my gosh Halloween is right around the corner!! It’s the one night of the year where you can be anything you want and there will be no judgment! In fact, in my world, the crazier your costume, the cooler you are!!! I love when people go absolutely nuts with their costumes. My all-time fave costume of mine was a bag of Jelly Beans… I stuffed myself with mini balloons inside a large clear trash bag with the super awesome spinning Jelly Belly hat. So it may have been difficult to walk in but, man, #RIP to all of those balloons that fell out of my bag as I walked from house to house.

But after a certain age, trick-or-treating isn’t acceptable anymore (I don’t understand why… I would for sure be going trick-or-treating every Halloween if people didn’t judge me). I’m all about that candy life… especially Reese’s (#amiright). But nowadays, I have to find other ways to indulge in my joy of candy.

And that’s where the homemade desserts come into play.

I’m always a fan of bringing my own desserts to the party. This year, you can bet your booty I’m bringing these not-so-scary fellas to my boyfriend’s Halloween party! Although BYOB is a thing, I’m a bigger fan of some BYOD (bring your own desserts, holla).

As a result, we’re here to bring you a recipe for hairy monster haystack candies!

Not only do these monsters look cute and appetizing, but they are so stinkin’ easy to make. Ten minutes is all you’ll need to make these Halloween candy creatures!

These little guys only require five ingredients and those ingredients may come as a surprise. 1. Butterscotch chips. 2. Chow mein noodles. 3. Peanut butter. 4. Colored chocolate melts. 5. Candied googly eyes.

Friends, grab your baking utensils and your five ingredients and let’s get baking!

Monster Haystacks

Ingredients

  • One 11oz. bag butterscotch chips
  • One 5oz. can chow mein noodles
  • Two tablespoons peanut butter (creamy or crunchy, your choice)
  • 6oz. colored melting chocolate
  • Candy eyes (small and large)

Equipment:

  • One large microwavable bowl
  • Two spoons
  • Baking sheet lined with wax paper
  • Two forks

Instructions

  1. 1. Melt butterscotch chips in large microwavable bowl in 30 second increments until fully melted.
  2. 2. Add peanut butter and mix completely.
  3. 3. Pour in chow mein noodles. Using the spoons, toss the noodles around, ensuring each noodle is coated completely.
  4. 4. Spoon a large heaping tablespoon of the mixture onto the wax paper to cool and harden. Set aside.
  5. 5. Melt the colored chocolate in 30 second increments until completely smooth.
  6. 6. Once each monster is completely solidified, drop the monster into the melted chocolate, gently coat the monster completely with the forks, then remove from the chocolate and let the remainder chocolate drip back into the bowl.
  7. 7. Place onto the wax paper. Add two candy eyes to each monster before it hardens.
  8. 8. Let cool for 10 minutes or until you can easily lift the cookies off the sheet.
  9. 9. Bon appétit!
